For a while I have wanted to add a page on my blog with a list of Airbnbs Alex and I have stayed in as information for others who like to stay in holiday apartments rather than hotels. Airbnb is a great way to explore new areas and many a time they can be a really cosy alternative to other holiday apartments advertised on booking.com or other holiday accommodation sites. The reason Airbnbs are often so nice is because they are more cosy and personal, decorated more like a home than a holiday home. You also often get to meet nice people while staying in these apartments. The following will be a living list of Airbnbs we would recommend to people. I will gradually add the ones we have already been to and add as we explore new ones. Simply hover the mouse over the name of the apartment to get to the airbnb page showing the full listing:
- Spacious studio apartment on a farm, Röthenbach in Emmental, Switzerland: This apartment is located up on the hillside in a peaceful countryside location near Bern, Switzerland. It is on the top of a farm house in the middle of the countryside. The only other buidlings near by are other farm houses. The apartment has an open living area/kitchen/bedroom. Additionally there is a small bathroom. The living area also has a fire place. Perfect for a cosy winter’s day. The farm used to be a fully functioning farm but then couple who own it have reduced it now. They have some sheep, chickens, donkeys, dogs and cats. The couple themselves live below the apartment and are very friendly. The price of the airbnb includes also a lovely breakfast of local cheese, fresh eggs, freshly baked bread and home made jams. You can easily reach the apartment by car but the couple owning it can also arrange to pick you up from the local station at the bottom of the hill. We have now stayed in this apartment twice and are going back again soon. Highly recommend it to anyone.
- Cosy apartment at the top of a detached house, Trub in Emmental, Switzerland: This apartment is located on the top floor of a detached house. You get to it via a windy outside staircase. The apartment has a small kitchen and then a living room, bathroom and bed room at the top of a small stair case, right underneath the slanted roof. The owners are very friendly and the location perfect for winter snowshoe hikes and also hikes in spring and summar.
- Cosy apartment in the middle of an old village square, Sonogno, Valle Verzasca, Switzerland: This is a quaint apartment in the middle of the Sonogno village square. We stayed there over new year – lovely and peaceful. During summer it would be buzzing with people there so in winter and probably in spring and autumn it is quieter. Perfect location for short and long walks in the Verzasca mountains. The apartment itself has a small kitchen, bathroom and a bedroom with a fire place.
